The Hundred

by Maris Callahan on December 22, 2008

For those of you who are keeping track (and I’m assuming that most of all of you are actually NOT keeping track) my last post brought down the house at #99. That right kids, we’re up to 100 entries at In Good Taste.

Those of you who might be new to the bloggy world might be wondering, “what’s so great about reaching 100 posts?” And my answer, frankly, is that I have absolutely no idea. I’m not even that impressed myself, but other people celebrate it and often, bloggers mark the occasion with the renown “100 Things” meme.

Well, I’ve had a draft of my inaugural 100 Things post saved in my dashboard for quite some time but for whatever reason, I can’t for the life of me seem to reach 100 things. So, as much as I enjoy learning hundreds of useless facts about my bloggy friends, I decided to give the 100 Things meme a makeover.

Given that my 100th post coincides with the holiday season, the following is my “100 Things Wish List” and from it, you’ll likely learn as many fun facts about me as you would from the traditional list. So here goes, 100 things I want now or have wanted at some point in my life, in no particular order…

1. A kitchen that cleans itself

2. To fall in love

3. Lifelong financial security for my parents

4. A TV channel devoted entirely to Law & Order

5. Delicious chocolate chip cookies that have no calories

6. An unlimited supply of Ziploc containers for leftovers – I don’t know how but I always wind up with more lids than containers and what good is that?

7. For the spirit of the holiday season to carry throughout the year – what is it about Christmas lights that put people in a better mood?

8. Job stability. Not just for me, but for anyone trying to make ends meet

9. A KitchenAid stand mixer

10. To have no regrets

11. Great taste in shoes

12. A career as a rock star

13. To be as compassionate and intelligent as my brother

14. An engagement ring for my mother (she was engaged, married but without the ring part)

15. To travel to Italy, Paris, Spain, New Zealand, Ireland…

16. To be 100% carefree

17. Defined abs

18. Better math skills

19. To have fewer negative thoughts about the outcome of various situations

20. A health insurance system that would grant every single person medical care

24. A stable economy (right!?)

25. A puppy like this one.

26. To max out my 401K every year

27. Better smells in the subway

28. That the trash collectors didn’t mix the garbage with the recycling in the truck every Tuesday and Friday – what’s the POINT?

29. To be able to frost and decorate a cake perfectly

30. The ability to roll my “r” – never can, never will

31. A larger extended family

32. A better understanding of the rules in football – I can follow a game somewhat, but when the whistle blows I really have no idea what the hell is going on

33. To learn to sew

34. Courses at the Institute for Culinary Education

35. A daughter and a son who are smart, happy and outgoing

36. A walk-in closet: I used to have one and in high school I would talk on the phone in there at night so my parents couldn’t hear me.

37. To own a second home in the country where I can go in the winter when there’s snow on the ground and a fire in the fireplace

38. While we’re on the topic, I guess I’d have to own a first home before I start eyeing a second

39. Perfect-fitting jeans

40. To never lose touch with a friend – it happens all too often

41. That Valentine’s Day wasn’t so damn commercialized

42. Lower utility bills

43. Laundry that does itself

44. A cure for cancer – or better yet, prevention for cancer. Is it really as simple as “wear sunscreen?”

45. That the small things we do to make a difference in the world will really someday make it a better place

46. To never run out of toilet paper

47. To spend more time with my friend Allison – in school we were practically inseparable but have hardly seen one another since graduating college

48. To get flowers for no reason

49. 20/20 vision

50. Wisdom

51. A worldwide ban on blinking Christmas lights. The white ones look lovely and the colored ones are even fine too. But either turn them on or turn them off, you can’t have it both ways

52. For my parents to live long enough to see their grandchildren have children

53. That everything I’ve ever learned will stick with me. My mistakes won’t be in vain

54. A better self-image. Sometimes I sweat the small stuff

55. A lifetime of good dreams, the kinds that make you not want to get up in the morning

56. Lots of blog comments!

57. A blackberry – it would help me stay better connected

58. To read the newspaper each day. I scan headlines but never have time to really read the articles

77. For people to laugh at my jokes, even when they’re bad

78. Endless grocery budget

79. To be less sensitive and not take things so seriously

80. A lifetime supply of Peppermint Mocha Coffee Mate

89. To look back on my writing from the past and be proud, not embarrassed by it

I’m so glad you stopped by our blog! I love yours! Wow you bake some crazy delicious looking goodies! The butternut butter/cuke combo was a stretch but given that cukes are kinda bland, it worked! :) Congrats on your 100 posts!
