When I was a child, I wasn’t very good at finishing the things I started. If I fell during ice skating lessons, I never wanted to go again. If I didn’t feel like going to dance class, my parents pulled me out. I quit the field hockey team mid-season during my senior year of high school and I changed majors about fifteen times in college before settling on two.
Since it’s been two weeks since my last Bread Baker’s Apprentice Challenge, some of you might have thought that after an embarrassing attempt at hearth baking I decided to throw in the towel. The truth is, I’m over not finishing what I start. I’m going to see this challenge through, even when my photos are less-than-stellar, like in Artos: Greek Celebration Bread or when the my bread turns out inedible and I have to resort to store-bought, such as my French bread.
Now, in addition to the bread baking challenge, I’ve signed on to another, albeit informal challenge with two of my blog friends. Over the past few months, I’ve let my workout habits slide a little (I’m only a little suspicious that that my lack of exercise is indirectly proportional to the amount of bread that I’m baking).
So, along with Denise from Chez Us and Joy from Gourmeted, I am taking the Couch to 5K challenge (since I have run short distances before I’m following the aggressive plan to get back into shape). We’re keeping tabs on each other via Twitter and I’ve been keeping up with the Couch to 5K (C25K) hashtag to see what some of the other newbie runners are up to.
Plus, if I’m running more, I can eat all the bread I want, right? Check back next week for my attempt at Kaiser Rolls and follow me on Twitter for more Couch to 5K updates!

Good for you! I’m challenging myself to get back in shape too but no running for me
That couch to 5K sounds like a great idea and I love that you guys are doing it together. It always helps to have friend support. I am looking forward to tasting me some kaiser roll!
Maris,
This bread look great! Keep up the great baking!
I really enjoy reading about your challenges and look forward to hearing about the 5K!
My challenge to myself before the year ends is to cut at least 10 pounds of my weight. I don’t have time to go to the gym lately but I need to start now. I keep on reading helpful tips online. Hope it works for me.
Oh wow, I could TOTALLY do with some of that bread right now, it looks fab!
Good for you doing the Couch to 5K Challenge. I know that Nicole from Pinch My Salt and Amanda from What We’re Eating are both doing well on it.
I had been a pretty committed exerciser for some years until about 6 months ago and then (end of school stress) I just quit exercising. Now I’m starting again and my challenge is a bit different, but I’m challenging myself to exercise every morning right after I finish my coffee and before I get busy working on the blog. I’ve made it for two days, so it’s a start!
If you need help eating any of the goodies you prepare, call on me.
Good luck with your goal! Running sucks so hard when you first start but eventually you do get into a rhythm. I’m here to tell you that you have to be patient for it. I hated my run for 9 months before I started to enjoy it slightly.
You go girl! Btw, I pulled out of ballet classes when we were told we were going to do the splits the next week. Yup, I couldn’t handle that at 7. :p
Your bread looks perfect from the crust to the inside. Wish I could snag a bite. Can’t wait to see more bread, you little trooper!
I love it, I feel more accountable now that our C25K commitment is publicized. Haha. =)
