There are some things that I really only do when I’m on vacation, like read for pleasure with no guilt, drink wine with lunch or eat French fries (okay, well sometimes I do that when I’m not on vacation but let’s not get into semantics here).
Another item for the “only-on-vacation” list is drink strawberry daiquiris. I’m pretty sure the last time I had a daiquiri was on spring break, many many many years ago when my friends and I would conclude each beach day with something frosty and alcoholic.
Frozen daiquiris are probably a vacation treat because it can be a hassle to haul out the blender every time you’re craving something smooth and spiked. Isn’t it easier just to go to the bar?
Well, if you happen to have strawberries in your freezer from an excessive farmer’s market shopping spree, a great way to use them is to make your own blender beverage that will transport you to vacation-land, even if only in your fantasies.
For full disclosure, I did drink one of these while on vacation after day of beach. I assure you, yours will taste as good as mine did after a day of this:
The recipe below is an honest approximation of what my cousins and I whipped up in the blender this past weekend. I am fairly certain that the recipe pictured below contained a more generous serving of rum than I would recommend to you, but feel free to start with 1 cup and if you have nowhere to drive, adjust accordingly.
Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri
What You Need:
3/4 cup pureed sweetened frozen strawberries
1/2 cup crushed ice
1 cup white rum [I wouldn't recommend using dark or spiced rum for this recipe although I certainly wouldn't begrudge you to experiment]
4 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
How-To:
1. Puree strawberries in a blender until they reach a smooth consistency. They might also be a little frothy, which is fine. Add the rum, sugar and lime juice. Add crushed ice to the top of the blender leaving about 1 1/2 inches of room. Blend until liquefied.
2. Pour into the glasses and garnish each glass with a cocktail umbrella, if desired. Makes 4 cocktails.

This looks like just what the doctor ordered! Happy Friday, and thanks for the recipe!
I totally have never tried making these at home! Strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas scream vacation to me
Wow, you only read for pleasure without guilt while on vacation? I would lose my mind if I didn’t read for pleasure daily!! And reading for pleasure with a Strawberry Daiquiri in hand…bliss
This sounds awesome, I love frozen drinks in the hot weather!
At least a cup of rum is necessary!
I love the “honest approximation!” The only way with a mix drink!
beautiful!! sometimes it’s fun to indulge in a vacation treat when not on actual vacation. feels like a little escape in itself
.
Total vacation drink! Bringing this recipe with me to the beach this summer:)
Oh yum. I have a sore throat so that looks really good right about now. Even though it’s 8:15 am….
My mom makes daiquris in the summer at our lake cabin and they are THE BEST because she always throws fresh fruit in. My fave are the peach ones she makes! So good and so refreshing after a day in the sun!
I would love one of those right now! Where were you vacationing?
Looks beautiful.
Looks like the perfect accessory to a day at the beach!
What a delicious vacation only drink! But, I love strawberries so much that I don’t think I could pass any strawberry drink. Great post!
Break out the blender, I am ready fro the weekend Maris.
I love the color! My mom would love this, too. She loves a good fruity frozen drink
Yum. Looks so refreshing!
This would not be at all hard to take. The color is wonderful and I’m sure it would be refreshing on a hot summer night. I hope you have a great day. Blessings…Mary
Mmm this looks so vibrant and refreshing — the hot weather’s been killing me over here. Send me one please ;p
I’m allergic to strawberries but I’d risk it for this!
LOL, “and if you have nowhere to drive, adjust accordingly,” love it! This looks so refreshing and I can’t remember the last time I had a daiquiri either. Yum!!
I can’t decide what I want more – a day at the beach or one of those daiquiris.
Looks so good!
I’m in final exams right now, so needless to say, I could REALLY use a frozen drink! This looks beyond awesome.
YUM! I love a good strawberry daquiris and a strong one is even better. The recipe is great!
I’ve been drinking a lot of strawberry smoothies lately. This looks like a great way to spice them up!
What a great summer drink!
The perfect way to start my weekend. I’ll be making one of these right after work!
This looks beautiful and it just won’t be the same without that little yellow umbrella
Man, it’s been SO hot this week that your lovely daiquiri would be gone in an instant if it was in front of me now. Such a gorgeous drink…perfect splurge for vacation
I’m a pina colada girl on vacation.. but this is a close second!
Sounds amazing in the hot weather that’s going to be coming our way soon. Very refreshing for sure.
I always have strawberries in my freezer, so this is a great idea! I don’t really drink, but when I do, I like fruity drinks
Is there anything better than a spiked pretty drink in front of the sunny beach? That was a perfect moment for you, right there. I’m totally making this for girls’ brunch in. We just need the beach now!
What a gorgeous day at the beach. I might have to have one of your gorgeous daiquiris for both hands.
This sounds so refreshing. I don’t really drink alcohol, but I bet this would be lovely even without the rum!
Such a classic! Great recipe.
I’m craving a strawberry daquiri, a good book, french fries, and a chair on the beach:)This looks wonderful and perfect for the hot summer months:)
Maris, this is a strawberry daquiri I could use right this minute! Frosty, fruity goodness with a bit of tipsy..Mmmhmm, would hit many spots lol
Great recipe. This is definitely what I’m making with my next batch of strawberries.
fun recipe oh wow look at that beach
Absolutely gorgeous color. It soo hot here, wish could have some!
Strawberry daiquiris is actually my type of drinks. I’m very light in terms of alcohol (I think I’m allergic) but I truly enjoy Strawberry daiquiris. So sweet and “easy to drink”. My husband who loves any alcohols always make fun of me by my definition of “easy to drink”. Great post and I’m keeping this recipe for me.
YUM! The perfect summer drink. Oh to be at the beach with a frilly drink
I just had a strawberry banana daiquiri the other day while on the boat and i felt as if i were in Mexico! I love that
out of this world delicious! too bad I can’t have one now (3 months prego) but believe me it will be on my list in 7 months (who cares that it will only be December!LOL!)!
Wow I just want to dive in! I have some strawberry coulis in the fridge too. Destiny!!
Sometimes, you’ve just gotta have a cocktail…..and this one looks like a keeper! (I’m instigating “cocktail Sunday” now that its summer and we can sit outside! We have all kinds of liquor that has been sitting in the cabinet since our wedding 5 years ago…so it’s time to experiment a bit, and use it up!) Cheers Maris! Have a great rest of the weekend.
Drinks like this are perfect when it gets hot and humid here. It would make me feel like I was on vacation too
I have loads of frozen strawberries, and vacation time coming up. Perfect!
How did I just find this blog? I LOVE IT!!
so easy! i love it. and after the week i’ve had, i need it!
