Best Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Food to Try

In my experience, the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food serves one of the best and tastiest foods in the world. I have tried many of their dishes that are rich in spices, flavorful, and delicious. I am surprised that the food is quite similar to Spanish, Italian, Greek, or Turkish cuisines since they both use a rich amount of olive oils, tomatoes, and salads in their dishes.

Here are great Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods that show why they you should try.

1. Falafel

Falafel is a deep-fried meatball like veggies that is made from chickpeas and spices. In Middle East shops, falafel is served in a pita bread sandwiches with tahini sauce. If you are a vegetarian, you will absolutely love this dish.

2. Shawarma

Shawarma is a meat marinated spices that are roasted in a vertical rotisserie. We all know that shawarma is one of the most popular sandwiches that are found all over the world. In most street food, they serve beef, lamb, or chicken, and they all taste amazing. The shawarma meats are mixed with garlic mayo sauce and veggies which is then wrapped in a flatbread into sandwiches.

3. Bamia

Bamia is an okra beef stew that is mixed with tomato sauce. This dish is common in the Middle East and some Mediterranean countries. Although it is not as popular as shawarma or falafel, this is one of my favorite okra dishes which are commonly eaten with white rice. In Lebanon, this stew dish is commonly served with vermicelli rice which is really tasty but simple.

4. Shepherd Salad

Shepherd salad is a Mediterranean salad that is mixed with cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, olives, and dressing such as lemon juice and olive oil. In Turkey, this is a popular salad which the locals called it the Choban Salad. It kinda reminds the Arabic salad like Fatoush or Tabouleh in Lebanon which they all taste mouthwatering.

5. Hummus

Hummus is a Middle Eastern dipping spread dish that is mixed chickpeas, tahini, lemon, and other seasonings. This is a very popular Middle Eastern vegan dish that you can eat with pita bread or any bread you like. Due to its popularity, this dish is widely served in Europe and America, but in the Middle East, it is way better since it is an authentic hummus. I must say, this is one of my favorite vegan dish which is not just delicious but healthy too.
