Planning the Perfect Garden Party

After two years of spending these early days of sunshine stuck solo in the house or garden, this year is the perfect opportunity to plan an outdoor party and soak up the springtime vibe with friends, either in the park or your own back garden.

If, like so many people around the world, post-COVID life has left you feeling as though you’ve forgotten how to speak to someone else, much less host an event, here are a few tips to begin planning the perfect garden party.

1. Decorating for your space

If you’re lucky enough to have access to your own private back garden, complete with extra-special touches like faux stone veneer decoration, use your fence posts to string up colorful lights and decorations, or wrap them around trees, pillars, etc. If you fancy trying something eco-friendly (and saving a bit of money!), you can even make your own bunting with leftover scraps of fabric and plain string or garden twine. If you’re setting up in a local park, bring along your homemade bunting and string it between two trees, and lay a big blanket underneath, picnic style! It will be the perfect backdrop for any photos your take too.

2. Good food for all

A great way to make sure everyone has something they want to eat is to make your party a classic North American potluck, where each guest brings a dish for the group. If BYOF isn’t your style, and you’re worried about catering for everyone’s dietary requirements, then there are plenty of vegan-friendly simple recipe collections online to help you out.

3. Good drink for all

When it comes to drinks, make sure you have alcohol-free options alongside the traditional summer drinks. After all, an increasing number of people are choosing to go booze-free these days. While there are a variety of non-alcoholic cocktail and beer options to choose from, don’t forget about the classic choices as well! Iced tea is perfect for sipping in the sunshine, and brands like Cooper Tea-coopertea.com– are making high-end teas that won’t feel out of place next to your sparkling rosé.

4. Outdoor activities

No matter who you’ve invited to your garden get-together, it’s a great idea to have a few activities in your backpocket to start a conversation or simply amplify a good time! Bring along a frisbee to the park or teach everyone to play a classic game of Bocce. If you’re in the back garden, consider starting a game of charades or simply blasting a great summer playlist on your speakers to get people into the groove!

5. Have a back-up plan

Although the sun may be out, you don’t want to go to all this effort of planning the perfect garden party only for the weather to not behave. One of the smartest things you can do when planning a garden party is to make sure you have a back-up locale nearby, whether it’s your front room or a local bar so that the sudden appearance of rain doesn’t ruin your party and the good time you have with those you’ve invited.
